"We Had Said So."
21 May
Serious planning is needed in the valleys.
İbrahim Usta, Chairman of the Trabzon Branch of the Chamber of Civil Engineers, stated that they are tired of having to say "we had said so" every time regarding floods and landslides, emphasizing that serious planning is needed in the valleys, that landslide maps should be produced and planning done accordingly.
In his written statement regarding the flood disasters in the Black Sea region, Usta noted that housing and living spaces continue to be produced through unplanned construction in areas unsuitable for settlement.
"First and foremost, existing hazardous structures must be identified and the necessary precautions taken. If necessary, structures should be relocated. The Black Sea Region continually experiences these kinds of disasters. After every incident, we hear many statements, but these issues, which require radical solutions, are forgotten a few months later."
